The Lowdown

Join us as we take a group of like-minded sober women on this once-in-a-lifetime journey as we hike the last 100 km of the “Camino” to raise funds for She Recovers Foundation and their ground-breaking work in the sobersphere and beyond. She Recovers is a non-profit global community of women seeking to inspire and empower women in their personal recovery journey and to help other women do the same. Full details of the Fundraiser can be found here.

The Camino - Sarria to Santiago de Compostela

Originally a religious pilgrimage, the Camino de Santiago has become one of the world’s top bucket list adventures for hikers, nature lovers and those seeking inner reflection and solace from the fast pace of daily life. The most popular route “The Camino Frances”, stretches 780 KM across the north of Spain beginning in the picturesque French town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, crossing the Pyrenees, and traversing through the regions of Navarre, La Rioja, Castilla y León, and finally, Galicia.

We will hike the last 100km section of the Camino Frances beginning in Sarria and finishing in the city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. In this section of the Camino, we will hike through enchanting forests, farmland and rustic villages all surrounded by the lush green landscape that is so characteristic of Galicia. Each evening, we will stay in local Tavernas where we will try some of the typical hearty dishes of the region and recharge for the next day ahead. At our final destination in the city of Santiago de Compostela, we will receive our traditional “Compostela Certificate” and explore the beautiful old town, now declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Important Information

  • The Camino Adventure is for women in recovery that are passionate about personal growth and supporting the She Recovers Foundation. As with all of our trips, facilitating connection with other like-minded sober folk is our driving force. We are compassionate about creating a non-judgemental and respectful space for our travellers to relax and express themselves authentically. We therefore encourage all participants to co-create a supportive and inclusive group dynamic. Due to the challenging nature of the Camino, participants must have a minimum of one year sobriety at the time of booking.

  • We will walk on average 20 KM (approx. 12 miles) each day. This will require both physical and mental stamina. All participants should have a moderate level of fitness and health as an absolute minimum. The hike itself is considered of moderate difficulty with some steep rolling hills but no mountaineering will be required.

  • Food on the trip will be basic home-cooked local fare. Some vegan, vegetarian and GF options will be available but they will be limited as we will be travelling through rural Spain.

  • Travellers will stay in local guest houses on a twin-sharing basis. The rooms will be basic but clean and comfortable.

  • We would encourage you to set a fundraising aim of $500. You can join our team and create your own fundraising page here. If you still have unanswered questions, email Mandy at hello@mandymanners.com
